Pathway to Achieving Student Success program (PASS) |
Welcome to the
PASS on the web!
WHAT IS PASS?The Pathway to Achieving Student Success program (PASS) is a full featured computerized behavior monitoring system that serves as the backbone of school behavior management programs.WHAT CAN I DO WITH PASS? - PASS prepares daily monitoring sheets (PASS Daily Sheet - see sample) to be conveyed by the student, a PASS Daily Coordinator Report which ranks and reports on overall progress, monitoring sheets (PASS Mail Checksheet) that can be sent through the building mail to obtain student behavior data, and individual student weekly reports (PASS Report - see sample) which thoroughly and graphically detail progress. PASS also prepares summary reports which are very useful in developing and reviewing Individual Education Plans. PASS uses action buttons called shortcuts to simplify program use. PASS tracks student functioning in five behavior areas (preparation, production, use of time, following rules, and relating to others) that are critical for productive activity. Users may employ the behavior categories as preset or optionally create their own categories and descriptions. Users may track students in as many as 15 sites a day including the residence setting.
WHAT DOES PASS DO FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES?Behavior results from decisions. PASS grew out of a desire to make kids aware of how their moment by moment decisions affect those around them so that they might more carefully consider those decisions. PASS teaches kids that they have the power to progress at any time by simply doing the little things that lead to success. PASS acknowledges that many students with problem behavior have families that need assistance in structuring their child for success. PASS involves care givers and provides opportunities for teachers and therapists to improve care giver attitudes and skills as everyone tries to improve the PASS numbers.WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF PASS?
HOW DID PASS COME ABOUT?PASS is a major revision of the MAPS program which many schools have used since 1983. The developer of MAPS and now PASS, Mr. William White, is a Teacher of Emotionally and Behaviorally Disordered Students in a junior high school in Stillwater, Minnesota. He uses the program with an average of 20 to 30 students who carry PASS Sheets daily. Twenty-five years of experience with emotionally/behaviorally disordered students has confirmed the value of the continuous and reliable behavior data that this program provides. In addition to being an outcome boosting strategy by itself, continuous progress monitoring and computerized reporting immediately clarifies and communicates the effectiveness of behavior change strategies. Rather than wondering what is happening with a student, all involved can focus on what they will do to stimulate improved outcomes.WHAT EQUIPMENT & SOFTWARE IS REQUIRED?PASS works best on Apple Macintosh G3 computers (32+ megs memory), and laser printers. ClarisWorks 4.0 v4 or v5 software must be installed on your computer before you will be able to use the PASS program. ClarisWorks is available from Apple Computer Corporation.HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?The individual PASS School package price is $200 which includes registration for the first year. PASS is delivered on a floppy disk which includes all necessary files (except ClarisWorks 4.0 v4 or v5) & manual. The annual tech support and user reregistration fee for each active school is currently $50. The district/cooperative package price is $500 (plus $50 per school if over 10.) Inservice is only available during the 1999-2000 school year . A one day inservice costs $300 per day plus expenses. HOW MUCH CLERICAL TIME IS REQUIRED?Experienced PASS users with good equipment speed can figure on needing approximately 10 minutes of clerical time a week per student to prepare monitoring sheets, and to prepare, copy, and distribute reports.IS USER SUPPORT AVAILABLE?Registered users may receive limited phone or e-mail support from the developer of PASS.HOW DO I GET MY OTHER QUESTIONS ANSWERED?E-mail any additional questions you may have about the program to whitewm@excite.com or use this form.
